I got my hands on a Lortone FL-20 which looks old as heck, but seems to be working. With that said, it's missing the polishing material and I was wondering if I can find one? If I remember correctly, my grandfather used a carpet, but I'm not sure if that's true or it was for something else.

Carpet isn't generally what you'd use for polishing rocks. That would be more for a very coarse grind. For a proper shine, you'll be looking for something like a felt or leather polishing lap, often used with super fine powders like cerium oxide.

You can still find felt pads that'll fit or can be cut to size, maybe check with lapidary suppliers or even eBay or worse case, cut an industrial felt to size

Yeah, felt or leather is the way to go for that final polish. Cerium oxide or tin oxide on a felt pad works well if you're doing stones. Carpet, not so much.
