Just a really old guy who had done woodworking for 50+ years and developed vision problems that made me rethink the use of power tools. Wife (now deceased) and I spent a very rainy week in the Mountain's at Chimney Rock NC in 2014 and came home with a box full of rocks from a covered gem mine where we killed some time in the rain. They sat in the garage for about 8 years and were nearly thrown out several times. When I had to put away woodworking tools I needed to find something else. I read an articulate about rock and stone polishing and I had kept a Dremel tool. In August of 2022 with a very bright light, a high magnification head set and my Dremel tool I cut and polished an amethyst and put it on a silver snake chain and surprised her with it. Now 3 years and close to a thousand necklaces later it is pretty much my reason for getting up each day. I now have the slab saw and a cabbing machine but still use the Dremel for the final polish. Still learning and wanted somewhere to talk and question others doing this. So glad those rocks never got thrown out!
